Excel Homes knows that ‘home is where the heart is,’ and this is precisely why the Calgary builder is hoping prospective buyers will venture into Heartland to see the variety of dwellings being offered for purchase.

Heartland, formerly known as the TRC Ranche, is the subdivision in west Cochrane off Highway 1A that was purchased by Apex Builder Group, a Calgary developer, after the former owner, Acera Developments, went into receivership.

“Excel is really excited to be building in Heartland in Cochrane and have had amazing feedback since opening just a few weeks ago,” said Nada Elaraj, the Heartland area manager for Excel. “We have worked closely with the developer to create a fresh new look with gorgeous detail to our exterior elevations.”

Elaraj said Excel is offering something for every budget, including single family and townhomes at present, and in the future plan to construct duplexes and townhomes with attached garages.

Feedback Elaraj has received suggest people like the location of Heartland, being adjacent to Highway 1A and next to recreation areas like parks and pathways.

She also said future phases, which Excel is now working on, are to include parks, a commercial area and a proposed school site.

Many of the houses that were sitting vacant on the subdivision needed refurbishment when Apex took over in August due to vandalism the area had endured in June.

“We’re quite impressed with the state of the whole project,” said Apex’s Susan Henderson in August.

Henderson said that her company had walked through the site approximately a month prior, and that all the homes ‘were in excellent shape’ even after sustaining $100,000 in damage at the hands of two 19-year-old Cochrane men.

Henderson said the financial responsibility to fix the damage lies with the vendor’s insurance company, as Apex did not own the property at that time.

Sitting stagnant for approximately four years, Apex also underwent water quality checks in the area.
