Humane Society gearing up for fundraising drive

Cochrane and Area Humane Society will be hosting a barbecue to discuss the new public fundraising campaign for the new Rehabilitation and Education Centre capital campaign this Saturday, Oct. 24.

Cochrane and Area Humane Society will be hosting a barbecue to discuss the new public fundraising campaign for the new Rehabilitation and Education Centre capital campaign this Saturday, Oct. 24.

“Everyone is invited down and come for a barbecue and cake and hear a little bit more about the project,” said Jaimie Anton, the society’s fund-development officer.

The current Education Centre operates out of the society’s downtown Cochrane location. But Anton said the space will soon not be available to the organizers. The plan for the new Rehabilitation and Education Centre is to expand on the current shelter location.

“The new centre will be used for training programs and education programs for kids and things like that,” Anton said. “The additional space will help us support growing demands on our pet-safe program and emergency boarding program and it also allows our shelter animals an area to use for training as well.”

With more than 60 per cent of the $850,000 already raised, campaign organizers are now asking for the public’s support – with the hopes of breaking ground by next spring and a completion date of Fall 2016.

“We want to build on the existing property – to be able to still offer and expand those programs to the community,” Anton said.

“We would love for the public to get involved and support the project.”

The Rehabilitation and Education Centre capital campaign will be launched at the Oct. 24 barbecue with cake, refreshments, and giveaways and prizes from noon to 2 p.m. with presentations at 1 p.m at the Cochrane and Area Humane Society, located at 62 Griffin Industrial Point. Anyone interested in the campaign can attend the barbecue, or call the local Humane Society at 403-932-2072.
