Increased RCMP presence at Manachaban on June 3 is a matter of protocol.

There will be an increased RCMP presence at Manachaban Middle School on Monday, June 3 – but Rocky View Schools (RVS) does not feel parents should be concerned about sending their children to school that day. The increased RCMP at the school is according to protocol.

"Earlier today a threat was uncovered that was directed toward Ecole Manachaban Middle for Monday, June 3," said Angela Spanier, spokesperson for Rocky View Schools.

"The school has been working with the local RCMP, which after investigation feel that school should resume as normal on Monday. As with any threat, the RCMP will have an increased presence at the school on Monday to ensure students and staff feel safe."

The school principal, Anne Kromm, sent out an email to parents earlier today (Friday, May 31) stating "we are seeking your support by speaking to your child about the seriousness of uttering a threat and the potential disciplinary actions and/or criminal charges."

It was only a few weeks ago that a similar situation took place at Cochrane High School.
