The Cochrane Eagle is asking candidates an issue-based question each week leading up to the election that they will answer in their own words. If a candidate does not answer a question, we will include a bio box with a disclaimer saying the candidate did not respond. All candidates were given a limit of 185 words and questions will be edited to fit that length. Our third question is:
How do you plan to address the town’s growing traffic congestion?
Traffic issues are no secret in Cochrane; for far too long we have just accepted it as a “fact” of living here. Council has been shifting the blame to the province for years and has pushed aside complaints about traffic in favour of projects such as new developments, the new pool and the Cochrane Dollar. I plan to make roads my main issue – it is time for the province to hear our voice. I would aggressively pursue the needed projects with the province and would keep knocking on their door until they listen, both figuratively and literally. I will not wait for the province to come to us. It is time to rally council and citizens and take our voices to Edmonton.
A couple of conversations a year is not enough. We have major arteries running through our town that are not only used the citizens of Cochrane, but by citizens of Rocky View County, campers, tourists and for commercial transport. This is not just a Cochrane issue – the effects of our clogged arteries reach much farther than just a long trip to Safeway.
