Legion still needs community support for statue project

After receiving a $65,000 cheque from the Town of Cochrane, the Cochrane Legion members want to remind the community that there is still a lot of fundraising to do to before the cenotaph statue project can be completed.

After receiving a $65,000 cheque from the Town of Cochrane, the Cochrane Legion members want to remind the community that there is still a lot of fundraising to do to before the cenotaph statue project can be completed.

Legion members accepted to cheque from Mayor Ivan Brooker on Tuesday, and immediately gave a cheque to Studio West Bronze Foundry owner Don Begg, who will be building the life-sized statue, to purchase a block of bronze.

More than $70,000 – including the cheque from the town – has been raised to date, the total estimate of the project is $120,000. Organizers are hopeful to raise the total cost by June.
