The Cochrane Lions Rodeo is preparing to crown its new queen.

Anyone between the ages of 18 and 25 interested in being honoured with the bejeweled cowboy hat are being asked to message the Cochrane Lions Rodeo Royalty Facebook page.

Applications for the 2018 Cochrane Lions Rodeo Queen are being accepted until Aug. 4. The winner receives a custom-made buckle and a saddle and will participate in more than 50 events during her reign.

“We have had some pretty good interest, ” said organizer Susan Black.

The first rodeo queen and princess were crowned in 2010. Last fall, only a queen was named, and this year will follow suit.

Cochrane royal alumni include 2012 Lions Rodeo Princess Shannon Black, who went on to become 2014 Calgary Stampede Princess.

Current rodeo queen, Leah Jackson, took over her duties last September and has since appeared at the CP Holiday Train event, Winterfest, the Airdrie Canada Day Parade and many more.

The Bow Valley High School graduate most recently attended a tea with a number of other rodeo queens from around the province, hosted by Calgary Stampede Indian Princess Savanna Sparvier from the Siksika First Nations. Jackson also rode in the Calgary Stampede parade.
