The Cochrane RancheHouse is once again featuring the work of a local artist whose work will be on display for the entire month.

For February, the artist featured is Cochrane’s own Joanne Ferster, who recently returned from several years of living and painting abroad.

“Her attention to light in these watercolours is remarkable. As an appreciator of art, I’m drawn into the experience of her work,” said Jola Muran, arts and culture instructor and arts liaison with the Town of Cochrane.

According to Ferster, travelling all over the world influenced her work and she hoped to ‘capture the pulse of a country through the medium of watercolour.’

She described each country’s culture as a complex mix of people and environment and thought that using the multiple layers of watercolour was an ‘ideal way to express the layers of country.’

“My art is a way to secure a point in time within that culture that provides an expression that is true to its country. My hope for you is that through my paintings you will either recall personal memories or get a true sense of the country,” said Fester.

Each month an artist is featured at the RancheHouse; for more information on the monthly show and the artist featured contact Muran at [email protected].

Fester’s work will be up until Feb. 27.
