A local woman just won $1,000 for the Cochrane Activettes Food Bank after entering a photo contest with CP Rail.

Leah Peterson, a startup photographer, snapped a photo of her young daughter taking an iPhone photo of the holiday train that passed through Cochrane on Dec. 13.

When she submitted the photo to the CP Rail contest, she had no idea what the winnings would be if she were to win and was floored to discover that $1,000 would be donated to the local food bank, not to mention she would score four tickets aboard the CP Rail Holiday Train in 2019.

“It’s a huge deal,” Peterson said. “When they told me it was $1,000 I thought it was a pretty huge deal for the food bank.”

Peterson joked she has multiple family members who are hoping to join her on the CP Rail ride.

“My husband and dad are arm wrestling about it,” she said laughing. Peterson said she’ll definitely be going with her daughter and her friend who had let them sit in the back of their truck during the holiday train event where she captured the photo.

“I thought it was a good photo, I didn’t think it would win,” she said. “I was pretty excited.”
