Mabel Scramstad celebrates 105th birthday

Cochranite Mabel Scramstad, celebrated a monumental milestone after celebrating her 105th birthday on Mar. 30.

Scramstad was born on Mar. 30, 1919 to Howard and Mary Garrison. After getting married to Sig Scramstad in 1937, where in the years that followed, they welcomed their children Wayne, Carol, Leslie Mae, and Debbie.

She worked hard as a famer in Northern Saskatchewan, with many duties from caring for animals, tractor driving, hauling grain, and cooking for hired hands.

When her husband passed in 1976, she stayed on the farm for two more years, renting out the work to neighbors. She would sell the farm three years later.

She would move to Wadena and wed Ed Nasserdan, a former MP under Prime Minister John Diefenbaker. After his passing in 1994, she would live with her daughter Leslie Mae for 20 years in Lacombe.

When her daughter passed in 2014, she remained in Lacombe for two more years before moving to Cochrane in 2014.

She lived at the Big Hill Lodge until 2022, where she moved to the Bethany Parkside in Calgary, before moving back to Cochrane at Bethany Cochrane in 2023.

Mabel has four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren. She has one living daughter.
