Man arrested after carjacking appears in court

The suspect who drove through Cochrane last week, with multiple accidents in town, a hijacked vehicle and ending in a dramatic arrest in Canmore appeared in court on Tuesday.

The suspect who drove through Cochrane last week, with multiple accidents in town, a hijacked vehicle and ending in a dramatic arrest in Canmore appeared in court on Tuesday.

Paul Belanger, 27, is facing various charges in Cochrane including two counts of flight from police officers, robbery, three counts of failing to stop at the scene of an accident, possession of a weapon and possession of stolen property.

Belanger appeared in court on Sept. 20 and the hearing was adjourned until later this month.

Belanger is also facing charges in Canmore including four counts of flight from police officers, five counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000, assault of a peace officer and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

The suspect stole a vehicle in Airdrie, drove through Cochrane hitting three separate vehicles before hijacking a car and continuing on to Canmore where he was arrested after trying to flee police on Sept. 13.

Belanger is currently going through court in Cochrane Provincial Court.
