Local RCMP got their man the morning of June 9. Or rather, the man came to them.

Bradley Bouvier, 18, has been charged with public mischief after Mounties responded to a call regarding an attempted robbery at about 9:30 a.m., said Cpl. Greg Stannard.

Police say the complainant told officers the alleged assailant threatened him with violence, unsuccessfully attempted to steal his wallet and then ran off.

According to an RCMP media release, the complainant was “less than cooperative” with police and asked to remain anonymous.

Stannard said he did provide RCMP with a description of the suspect. A person fitting the suspect was arrested without incident.

However, while interviewing the suspect, it was determined the robbery never occurred, said Stannard. He added that Bouvier admitted he had fabricated the story, describing his own clothing and characteristics.

Stannard said Bouvier had called RCMP hoping for a drive into Calgary.

In addition to the public mischief charge, the 18-year-old Calgary man is also facing two charges of breaching his conditions. He is scheduled to appear in Cochrane Provincial Court to deal with the charges against him.
