A Morley man who was responsible for the death of a 10-year-old girl following a vehicle collision was sentenced to six months in jail May 26.

Fergus Hunter, 21, was convicted for dangerous driving causing death and has already spend nearly two years behind bars since the incident, which occurred on the Trans-Canada Highway just west of Calgary near Canada Olympic Park.

Eleasha Wesley was with her parents driving a Pontiac Grand Am when Hunter rear-ended their vehicle, killing the 10 year old, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.

Wesley was ejected from the vehicle as it rolled into the ditch.

Hunter was driving a 2002 Kia Sedona.

Three others inside the rear-ended vehicle suffered minor injuries from the crash.

Wesley and her parents were driving back to Morley from Calgary at the time of the collision, which happened May 3, 2012.

Hunter was arrested 20 days after the crash, and was facing a maximum sentence of 14 years in jail.

At the time of Hunter’s arrest, he was out on bail for another traffic incident. Police say he drove into a crowd of people during a brawl.
