A large crowd turned up at the Cochrane Alliance Church June 4 for an information session regarding the vision and changes behind the Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD) program.

The Frank Oberle, associate minister of services for persons with disabilities, hit the stage as the 15th stop on a tour that has him speaking at 22 community meetings throughout Alberta.

“At some higher level, we all agree that every Albertan should set goals for the future and the service system should support these goals,” Oberle told a crowd of about 100.

“But this isn’t actually how things work in this province.”

Much of the discussion centered on the $42-million budget cuts to a community support program offered to PDD users.

Oberle stressed that the PDD initiative is not being cut, instead it is being transformed to achieve the best results for clients.
