Police are expecting to lay more charges following an arrest made on July 10 after an extensive investigation uncovered drugs and multiple stolen vehicles.

RMCP arrested a Morley woman who faces 18 charges including stolen property, possession of heroin and failing to comply with conditions of release. Since those charges were laid RCMP say the woman could face more and a second person was arrested.

Tanya Megan Mark, 28, from Morley was remanded into custody after the Cochrane RCMP uncovered more than six vehicles that were stolen from Cochrane, Calgary and surrounding communities earlier this month.

In addition to the 11 charges of possession of stolen property over $5,000, Mark is also facing two counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000, three possession of drugs charges including heroin and methamphetamine (street value under $100) and two counts of failing to comply with conditions of release.

“There will be more charges laid against her as we do more follow up,” said Cpl. Troy Savinkoff with the Cochrane RCMP.

During the investigation there were other arrests made for drug possession and possession of stolen property.

“In the process, officers did recover an additional stolen vehicle in Cochrane – a 2001 Saturn – with four people arrested,” Savinkoff explained.

Four people were arrested on July 8 but only one, a 29-year-old woman from Morley, is facing charges for possession of stolen property and other related offences.

Savinkoff said the case relates to many property crimes that occurred in the area over recent months.

“We hope this might make an impact on property crime in Cochrane, Calgary and Morley in the short term.”

The case is going through Cochrane Provincial Court with Mark expected to appear for the first hearing later this month.
