Cochrane RCMP assisted the Canmore RCMP with the response of a stolen vehicle from Exshaw in the late morning of Jan. 11, which resulted in a foot chase.

After attempts were made by police to stop a vehicle, the driver fled. However, with the assistance of On Star, the vehicle was immobilized shortly afterwards.

The suspect, a 25-year-old male, then exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

Cochrane RCMP, RCMP Traffic Services, and Police Dog Services (PDS) assisted in the pursuit. The Morley man was located and arrested nearby without incident.

Tylan Edward Hunter was arrested and charged in relation to the incident.

“Hunter and the vehicle crossed our detachment boundaries, so both detachments worked together,” said Cst. Kary Moore of Cochrane RCMP.

As a result of the arrest, additional charges were laid on the male driver in relation to a number of other stolen vehicle incidents in the Canmore area since Jan. 1.

Cochrane RCMP could not confirm whether any of the stolen vehicles are from the Cochrane area or whether he is being charged for them.

Hunter is now in custody and appeared in court for a hearing on Jan. 16.

He is charged with multiple offences from various RCMP detachments including flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, theft of motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime, trafficking in property obtained by crime, possession of methamphetamine and operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s licence and without insurance.
