The name of a deceased 22-year-old man in Morley has yet to be released.

Another 22-year-old man, Gabriel Lazarus Wesley of Stoney Nakoda Nation, has been charged with ‘Failure to Stop at Scene of Accident’ under Sec. 252 of the Criminal Code.

It is believed that the unnamed man was struck by a vehicle, while walking along an unnamed roadway south of Morley sometime in the early morning hours of Jan. 31.

Cochrane RCMP received the call at 6:25 a.m. and observed that the vehicle that struck the victim had left the scene.

Officers have seized a 2004 Dodge Neon believed to be involved in the incident.

This matter is open for investigation and officers are encouraging anyone who was with the victim the previous evening to call the Cochrane detachment at 403-851-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

A routine Cochrane Integrated Traffic Unit enforcement on Hwy 1A between Cochrane and Calgary resulted in issuing tickets to two adult Calgary males, who were clocked excessively speeding at 200 km/hr in a zone with a posted maximum of 100 km/hr.

A 21-year-old male and a 26-year-old male were found to be the drivers of two 2013 Toyota Scions racing in the direction of the officers.

Both males have been charged with ‘speeding contrary to Section 115(2)(c) of the Traffic Safety Act;’ both have mandatory court appearances in Cochrane Provincial Court March 27, 2015.

“Speeding is one of the top priorities of the Integrated Traffic Units in Alberta and a common factor involved in 26 per cent of serious injury and fatal collisions,” said Sergeant Darrin Turnbull.

“This is the second occurrence in the last week of young males driving at extremely high rates of speed on roadways just outside of the city of Calgary.

“Crashing at that speed could have been catastrophic.”
