Poor driving conditions contributed to a two vehicle collision Wednesday morning (Nov. 20) between a Toyota Tundra and Chevy Equinox near the intersection of Highway 22 and Highway 567 at around 8 a.m.

The female driver of the Equinox, from Airdrie, was taken to Foothills. She is listed in critical condition and is still on life support. The male driver of the Toyota, from Cochrane, was also taken to Foothills and is in stable condition, said Troy Savinkoff of the Cochrane RCMP.

Rockyview Fire, EMS and Cochrane RCMP responded to a number of collisions Wednesday morning on Highway 1A, 1 and 22 west of Calgary.

Cochrane RCMP would like to thank motorists for their patience while they followed traffic control direction and safely manoeuvred around emergency personnel.

Weather and road conditions are believed to be a factor. Motorists are reminded that road conditions are icy in many areas. The heavy snowfall on Tuesday and subsequent thaw during the day on Wednesday have contributed to icy roadways. The RCMP encourage drivers to allow themselves more time than usual to get to their destination safely.

Further updates are not anticipated.
