Boot up your computers, because the Town of Cochrane census begins April 10, and the town is asking that residents participate online.

Starting this Friday door hangers with unique identification information will be delivered, as this year’s census commences, which requires submission by May 9.

“When we started asking census questions online, response rates increased because many people find that easier,” said Stacey Loe, manager of legislative services, in a recent press release.

Last year, over half of respondents participated online, and this year, town officials hope that more residents participate in the two-question survey to ensure accurate census information.

A precise census count will ensure that the town receives maximum funding that it is entitled to through government grants that are awarded per-capita.

Last year, Cochrane’s official population was counted at 20,708.

Once all census information is gathered by May 9, the results will be submitted to Alberta Municipal Affairs and the numbers become official once the report is accepted.
