Just in time for Remembrance Day, a young Cochrane author has released an anthology written in commemoration of the centennial of the First World War.

Author Josie Neven-Pugh will be launching her book, titled 619,636 Reasons Why, Oct. 24 at the Cochrane Legion and have copies of her anthology for sale during the Legion’s barbecue.

The author had previously written the DragonTail series, including books DragonEye and DragonWing: Take Flight.

“I wanted to depict parts of the war that are common knowledge and perhaps looked over,” Neven-Pugh said. “The anthology is my way of promising that I’ll never forget.”

The anthology is 100 pages and includes 14 poems and one short story. It is described in a press release as small yet no less impactful, reflecting on the reasons why Canadians entered and remained in the Great War.

The release goes on to say that it follows the war by depicting the narrator to be in a dream while lying “amongst the stones” of the Vimy Memorial in France and reflects on the impact the First World War had on both the frontlines and the home front.
