New Calgary Flame and Cochranite Mason Raymond joins Richards' hockey challenge

National Hockey League star and local Cochrane resident Mason Raymond will be joining Wild Rose MP Blake Richards’ annual hockey fundraiser this September.

National Hockey League star and local Cochrane resident Mason Raymond will be joining Wild Rose MP Blake Richards’ annual hockey fundraiser this September.

“We have been hoping to bring Mason in for this event for several years,” said Richards, “and now that he has signed on with his hometown NHL team, we are ecstatic to have him join us.”

Raymond signed a three-year deal with the Calgary Flames last month after stints with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Vancouver Canucks.

Joining Raymond at Richards’ Rocky Mountain Hockey Night will be Flames’ broadcaster and former NHL star Charlie Simmer, former Flames Jamie Macoun and Tony Stiles; and former NHLers Zarley Zalapski and Morris Lukowich.

Rocky Mountain Hockey Night directly supports the Cochrane and Area Victim Services Society, Bow Valley Victim Services Association, the Airdrie and District Victim Assistance Society and the Chinook Arch Victim Services Society. All four victim services units provide counselling for victims of crime, disaster and other tragedies, as well as advocacy for victims of crime.

To date, the hockey challenge has raised more than $280,000.

This year’s event takes place Sept. 7 in Airdrie.
