Recent curiosity has been sparked on Cochrane social media platforms over a development permit posted at the Trading Post site in Sunset Ridge.

The Eagle spoke with area developer president Tony Robinson of the Trading Post of Sunset Ridge, who confirmed that construction of a family restaurant — the Townhall Public House — would begin in the next two months.

Tentatively opening by late summer 2015, the 3,800 square foot space, complete with a patio, would be built out to accommodate seating for 130 patrons.

The concept of the new Alberta chain, owned by the Joseph Richardson Group, is in line with popular Calgary venues such as The National and Craft; another location is being built in Fort McMurray, modeled after its nine Vancouver-based locations. “We expect that this is going to add a lot of interest to our site, which is mixed use — commercial and residential,” said Robinson, adding that there would be considerable mixed use spaces available in the Trading Post — with tenants on upper levels and businesses operating down below.

It’s all part of a ‘village-style’ concept envisioned by the developer.

“Just imagine walking out the front door of your unit, where you can get a coffee, buy a bottle of wine, eat a slice of pizza, have your teeth cleaned, go to the gym and get your hair cut without getting into your car,” said Robinson, who is excited about the potential for this ‘cultural hub’ in Cochrane’s most populated community.

Robinson said that over the next four months, a day care, dentist and hair salon are among the commercial businesses opening in the Trading Post.

The community map outline indicates multiple two-storey buildings with live/work spaces and much greenery to be planted around the residential and commercial spaces.
