New members give ACFC energy boost for new year

The Arts and Culture Foundation of Cochrane (ACFC) held their premier 2013 board meeting on Nov. 14, excited to enter a new era, complete with new members and a plethora of possibilities on the horizon.

The Arts and Culture Foundation of Cochrane (ACFC) held their premier 2013 board meeting on Nov. 14, excited to enter a new era, complete with new members and a plethora of possibilities on the horizon.

“We’re still working on a new president,” said town liaison, Sandy Johnson, adding that the group will be meeting later this week to designate board members with their official roles.

“We have a really neat group this year — a core group of volunteers who have come back, which is important for continuity, but some new members who add so much to the group,” said Johnson.

Johnson said she’s impressed to see newcomers from diverse backgrounds, including theatre, visual arts, event planning, business and artist management and people experienced at working with government and volunteer boards.

“It’s really important for any board to have new people and new energy for their continued success,” said Johnson.

The group is gearing up for the 2012 ACFC Christmas Art Sale, which will be held at the Cochrane RancheHouse on Dec. 1-2, from noon to 4 p.m. A variety of small and large works will be on display and available for purchase, all created by Cochrane and area artists, including members from the Cochrane Art Club and the Foothills Art Club.

As the new year approaches, the group is pushing for a 2013 site announcement for the long-awaited arts and culture community centre.

Those who wish to market their wares at the ACFC annual sale can contact Sandy Johnson at 403-851-2535, via email at [email protected] or visit the group’s website at artscochrane.ca.
