New Year's events in the Cochrane area

It’s hard to believe that 2013 is only a few short days away. Luckily, many local venues are offering up come stellar options for ringing in the new year. So, bust out your partypants and check out the wide range of festivities slated for this Dec.

It’s hard to believe that 2013 is only a few short days away. Luckily, many local venues are offering up come stellar options for ringing in the new year. So, bust out your partypants and check out the wide range of festivities slated for this Dec.31.

The Bragg Creek nightlife destination plans to pull out all the stops for its annual New Year’s Eve celebration.

“We always throw a big event with no cover charge, it’s our way to show our customers appreciation,” said Rose Dallyn, owner of the saloon and sports bar.

Patrons will take in the rocking tunes of Nite Wind Band, who perform everything from classic rock to country. Champagne will be on hand for toasting the New Year and a midnight buffet should ward off any late-night hunger. The theme of the evening is black and white.

While there is no cover charge for the event, space is filling up fast. More details can be found by dialing 403-949-3946.

If you are thinking of heading over to the legion for their New Year’s Bash, be sure to bring your appetite. The organization will be serving up a prime rib supper at 7 p.m., following a 6 p.m. cocktail hour.

Later, guests can dance to the variety of tunes played by Turn ‘Em Loose. Champagne will be on hand at midnight to toast in 2013.

If you’re looking for something a little more on the laidback side of things for the Monday night event, Ducks on the Roof will be celebrating into the early hours of 2013.

It’s free to join in on the festivities but dinner reservations are recommended. The kitchen will be open until about midnight.

A DJ will be on hand all night, spinning a little bit of everything for partygoers while party favours and complimentary champagne will help guests ring in the new year. For more information call 403-932-5959.

The staff at the Saloon invite everyone to come down to the Rockyview Hotel for the ‘2013 New Year’s Bash.’ This year, partygoers can prepare themselves for a one-plate, carvery-style feast — complete with prime rib, roast turkey and a selection of desserts to choose from.

There will be two seatings for the buffet-style meal, at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m., with a total of 80 tickets available. Dress is semi formal.

After satisfying your appetite, get ready to party to the classic rock sound of Pistol Noon. Champagne will be served to ring in 2013.

Tickets for the dinner are available for $50 (plus GST) and reserve your seat for the entire evening. For $15, you can take it the bank, but there may be only standing room available. The steakhouse will be serving their regular menu, but reservations are recommended.

For food-lovers, Olive ‘R Twist Bistro and Bar may be just the place to celebrate and reflect on the year gone by.

The venue is offering two dinner seatings on Dec.31, a three-course meal that gets underway at 5 p.m. and a five-course meal that kicks off at 8:45 p.m. Options range from lobster bisque and bison potstickers, to sea bass with wasabi goat cheese and lobster ravioli. Champagne for toasting is included in the later seating.

The three-course meal is priced at $55, and the five-course feast will set patrons back $75. Both meals will have a 20 per cent gratuity added to the bill.

If fireworks are your thing, then consider heading to the townsite of Redwood Meadows for their annual display.

Guests will be gathering in the sports field across from the Redwood Meadows Community Hall to take in the lit-up sky. The show starts at 8 p.m. For more information on the fireworks, call 403-949-3563.

For a more celtic affair, head to The Hideout Pub to welcome 2013 with Irish stew, pizza and — of course — a pint or two.

Local band The Mottee Stones will be belting out celtic tunes all night long and, for a $15 cover charge, patrons can fill their bellies at the buffet and grab a complimentary glass of champagne for toasting in the new year. Of course, an array of party favours will be on hand to help ring in 2013.

Why not ring in 2013 with retro flair at the Stoney Nakoda Resort and Casino’s Vintage Vegas in the Valley party.

Free to get in, there will be fedoras and boas, cigar and cigarette girls and a mock chapel for those looking to add a little (fake) romance to their evening.

Check out the seafood and prime rib buffet, which will be serving goodies like atlantic lobster and bacon-wrapped tenderloin. The cost of the feast is $34.99.

Shuttles will be running from the casino to Canmore, Cochrane and Banff.

If it’s seafood you’re craving, head on down to the Texas Gate and say goodbye to 2012 at the New Year’s Eve Dinner.

Featuring a buffet-style feast of prime rib and lobster, the dinner begins at 7:30 p.m., with cocktails at 7p.m. An all-request DJ will be spinning tracks for the remainder of the evening and as midnight approaches, gather your party favours and champagne to cheer in 2013. Any late-night munchies can be extinguished when the venue rolls out their midnight buffet.
