Bragg Creek is home to Derby, a pretty special and very decorated bull.

Derby is the undefeated Canadian National Grand Champion Limousin bull for the second year in a row and is from Highland Stock Farms in Bragg Creek.

Amanda Matthews from Highland Stock Farms said they were very excited to win two years in a row.

“The best way I can describe it is like a beauty contest,” said Matthews of the competition, adding that some of the things they look for is muscle, structure and mobility.

“It is a prestigious title, especially when you win it two years in a row,” she said.

In addition to winning national champion at the competition, the two year old also won Canadian Limousin Association Show Bull of the Year for the second consecutive year.

Matthews explained that this is different than the National Grand Champion competition in that it is based on a points system that is accumulated over the calendar year and you are competing against bulls that are not physically at the national competition.

This year, Derby also placed in the Top 4 at the Lloydminster Stockade Roundup, Top 5 at Farmfair International in Edmonton and Top 10 at the Canadian Western Agribition in Regina, Sask.
