One hundred per cent club

Cochrane High School’s Jordan Eeles was recognized by Rocky View Schools (RVS) board of trustees June 5 for his exemplary efforts on his Biology 30 diploma exam.

The Grade 12 student credits a rigorous study schedule and starting early for his success in earning 100 per cent on the exam.

“I ended up with a lab group where someone lost a project and (we) ended up with a zero. So I said, ‘I need to study,’” Eeles said.

With that he set out to make up for the bad mark and started studying, and it paid off. Eeles said when he left the January exam, he felt fairly confident he’d get a good mark.

“I was excited,” he said. “I thought I had got pretty close. I was just hoping I didn’t miss just one question.”

“I’m very proud of him,” said Eeles’ father David. “It just reinforces (that) there’s lots of opportunities available for kids when they work hard and study hard.”

David said the 17-year-old student would spend anywhere from an hour to several hours a night studying and doing homework, but Eeles still had time to engage in a life outside of academics.

He enjoys skiing, hiking and trains in the martial art of Goju Kai karate. He spends his summers volunteering as a camp leader at the Salme Acres Bible Camp and is a talented musician who plays several instruments including the guitar, piano and saxophone.
