Opening Cochrane's doors

Plans for the second annual Doors Open Cochrane are currently underway, with this year’s event rescheduled for April 24-25.

Originating in France in the mid-80s and held in several cities around the world, the Doors Open event is intended to provide local businesses and municipal government an opportunity to open their doors to the public and provide a glimpse into how each operate on a day-to-day basis.

Last year’s event was part of Alberta Culture days, with doors opening Sept. 26-27. The Town of Cochrane said holding Doors Open Cochrane in April would alleviate some of the scheduling pressure a fall event brings with it.

Local organizations are invited to participate in this year’s event and show the public what they do and how they do it.

In addition to various town departments, several Cochrane organizations and businesses opened their doors last year — 17 in total — including the RCMP station, Ink’d Graphics, Studio West Gallery and Foundry and the Canadian Southern Baptist Seminary.

Participants provide tours, events and insider information on their businesses free of charge, allowing attendees a better understanding of not only the business itself, but the community as a whole.

For more information or to sign your business up for Doors Open Cochrane visit doorsopencochrane.ca.

A full list of participants will be available for the public in April.
