Pair of councillors bring NOMs

Coun. Tara McFadden will be presenting a Notice of Motion (NOM) regarding backup beepers at the next council meeting Oct. 27.

Coun. Tara McFadden will be presenting a Notice of Motion (NOM) regarding backup beepers at the next council meeting Oct. 27.

“The reason for the NOM is because this has been an ongoing conflict between businesses operating with backup beepers and the peace and quiet for the nearby residents,” said McFadden.

Residents in the East End, including McFadden, have struggled in the past over noise concerns from the adjacent industrial sector.

East End residents Kevin Shier and Bryan Skrypnek have volunteered their time and efforts to work with Spray Lake Sawmills and All Span Building Systems to find a solution to the problem.

Through this, a new technology has been utilized by the businesses, resulting in quieter backup beepers.

McFadden said she would like to ensure that the hard work on the part of both the industrial sector and the East End residents does not go unnoticed.

She hopes that a NOM will result in ensuring this low-noise solution is adopted by all new and existing businesses in Cochrane.

“Hats off to these groups for their efforts,” said McFadden, adding that the NOM would bring this success story to the next level.

Mary Lou Davis will also be presenting a NOM at the Oct. 27 council meeting to purchase temporary speed bumps to be installed in residential areas throughout town where speed has been problematic.
