Bragg Creek Days will celebrate summer in the hamlet this year July 18-19, featuring an array of activities for those of all ages.

Friday will have a family movie night double feature and Saturday will start with an 8 a.m. pancake breakfast at the Redwood Meadows Fire Department, followed by a parade at 10:30 a.m.

There will also be a midway, food trucks, beer gardens and the Creeker Stage that will feature musical performances throughout the day.

“If you want a fun-filled family day, come on down, because there is lots to see and do,” said Kristyn Schmidt, president of the Bragg Creek Community Association.

Last year, Bragg Creek was ravaged by flooding just weeks before the annual festivities, causing the event’s turnout to be significantly lower.

Schmidt said they expect this year to have better attendance.

“Historically, it has been a great event to come to, there’s been lots of people, so we hope to have enough draw this year again for people to come out and stay for the day,” she said.

Although there will be no special event at Bragg Creek Days to commemorate the flood, Schmidt said the ‘Recreate the Creek’ group would be there providing information on how they plan to “re-beautify” the community.

Schmidt said the Bragg Creek community would be very much reflected in the event.

“We are such an eclectic community,” she said. “There is a little bit of everything out here. It’s so unique, nothing like I’ve ever seen before.

One of those included in the “little bit of everything” is 18-year-old Tristan Zaba – a musician from Bragg Creek. He plays in a local band that goes by his last name Zaba.

Zaba is a classically trained and plays multiple instruments including drums, guitar, bass and piano, and also sings opera. He is starting a composition program in the fall at the University of Manitoba.

“It’s sort of isolated and on its own, which I think is important for any kind of art,” said Zaba. “The need to be left to your own device – it really helps. People in Bragg Creek are really interesting people.”

The band Zaba – featuring Tristan, Russel Emprey on rhythm guitar, Quinn Em on bass and clarinet and Aaron Patton on drums – recently released an album titled In the Round. It is available on iTunes and at the band’s shows.

Zaba will be playing his last show with his current band before he leaves for Manitoba Aug. 5 at Dickens Pub. They will be opening for Toronto’s Bleeker Ridge.

Zaba said he would potentially start a band in Manitoba and is always writing new music.

“As far as music goes, I am driven,” said Zaba. “I am constantly working on creating new stuff.”

Zaba’s performance at Bragg Creek Days will be a solo act.
