The push to revive the parade through Historic Downtown is on track for this Saturday, as the Parade of Lights will take place during the evening of Dec. 8. This is the first time the Cochrane Light Up committee has taken the reins, as the former Santa Claus Parade committee disbanded after only three years and the Light Up team did not want to see the opportunity to tour Santa downtown missed. "We desperately need volunteers from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. – mostly for barricades and set-up," said organizer Stephenie Shelstad. "We have 20 floats with more signing up." Entertainment kicks off at 5 p.m. and includes two face painters, stilt walkers, and the big polar bear back from Light-Up by popular demand. Santa will also be making his rounds. The parade form up area will take place across from Shell in the former IGA parking lot and head down Main Street with a moving barricade toward the old town hall site (no parking available at that site). Drivers will want to avoid the downtown – with road closures from 3 to 7 p.m. along Main Street and where Fifth Ave and First Ave intersect with Highway 1A. To sign up to volunteer, visit cochranelightup.com or contact Shelstad at 403-463-4226.
