The Cochrane Eagle is asking candidates an issue-based question each week leading up to the election that they will answer in their own words. If a candidate does not answer a question, we will include a bio box with a disclaimer saying the candidate did not respond. All candidates were given a limit of 185 words and questions will be edited to fit that length. Our third question is:
How do you plan to address the town’s growing traffic congestion?
I often think what if council had decided to build the new bridge before the $50 million pool? Would traffic be as much of a concern as it is presently? The reality is that Cochrane is challenged geographically, however that doesn’t excuse council from neglecting the needs of Cochrane instead of the wants. Cochrane needed that new bridge before “all the citizens wanted the pool” as we were told by council members.
Cochrane needs to slow down its housing development and allow the infrastructure to catch up.
The traffic woes will be even more frightening when the construction commences on the intersection of highways 1A and 22 and hopefully the new bridge will alleviate some of the congestion.
Cochrane needs traffic circles, not more lights. Traffic circles have worked efficiently in Europe for hundreds of years but western Canada has been slow to adopt them. An underpass for a rail crossing is coming in the far away future as well, which the town also needs now, not later.
