Shane Philip will be revisiting Legacy Guitar and Coffee House May 23 and is expected to fill the house once again.

As he returns out west, making his way to his Courtney, B.C. home following a month-long cross-country tour, Philip brings his percussive, multi-instrumental self to the local venue for a full-sounding show.

“It’s the music that comes out of my body naturally that I played,” said Philip, whose schedule has been brimming with gig upon gig after his high school students convinced their beloved teacher to quit his day job and play music full time nine years ago.

“I play world-type instruments with my own Canadian-boy approach,” mused the singer/songwriter, whose list of instruments that he doesn’t play is longer than the ones he does.

Weissenborn-style guitar. Banjo. Ukulele. Didgeridoo. Anything percussive. Anything that resembles a drum.

“All of the instruments I play are made from various Vancouver Island makers,” said the proud islander, who has long held a penchant for acoustic instruments.

His full-bodied sound takes from several genres — folk, reggae, blues, world and more for an overall ‘folk fusion’ groove that has the Legacy staff excited to have him perform for Cochrane once again.
