Photo show to raise cash for library

The Friends of the Nan Boothby Memorial Library will be hosting an artist showcase March 2, all in the name of raising money for the community hub.

Held at the library, local photographer Patrick Price will be exhibiting “A Little Town in the Foothills,” a photo slideshow of his collection of work from Cochrane and its surrounding areas.

The showcase will document Price’s more than 20 years of photographing the region.

“My show is about Cochrane and area, but it’s really about the people,” said Price. “It isn’t the buildings that make the town — it’s the people…. Without the people, we’re just another community.”

Price came onboard after attending last month’s Glen Boles showcase, also hosted by the Friends of the Nan Boothby Memorial Library.

“These funds will be going directly towards the library,” said Anne Beck, chair of the fundraising organization. “There is a list of priorities given to us by the library board and the library’s staff. The proceeds will go to take care of these priorities.”

High on this list is the “pumping up” of the children’s programming at the library. This includes adding to the department’s collection, as well as supporting kid-friendly events like story times.

The showcase will get underway at the library at 7:30 p.m., with doors opening a half hour in advance. Tickets can be purchased for $10 at the library.
