A private plane was forced to emergency land next to the Springbank airport on Jan. 12, after the pilot was having issues with the fuel gauge.

The Cochrane RCMP got a call at approximately 2 p.m. from a concerned resident who said they witnessed a plane crash.

After calling the airport authorities, the local RCMP were assured the airport was aware of the situation. Cochrane RCMP, EMS and Fire responded to the call.

Upon interviewing the pilot, the police discovered that something was wrong with the fuel gauge, making it unreadable. The pilot radioed into the local flying tower, who then told the pilot to do an emergency landing for precautionary measures.

The aircraft was carrying the pilot and three passengers, all left unharmed.

The Transportation Board was also notified about the incident but did not respond immediately. The plane was going to be assessed and, if able to fly, the pilot would fly it to the airport. If not, the plane was going to be towed back to the airport.

Other than this, Cochrane Sgt. Jeff Campbell said it has been a fairly quiet week in the town.

“Hopefully it stays that way for a little while,” Campbell said with a laugh.
