Cochrane RCMP combined surveillance video with tips from the public to quickly arrest and charge two males suspected of robbing a West Valley pub early Wednesday morning.

Const. Kary Moore said about 12:05 a.m. on Aug. 16, a male confronted an employee at the unnamed lounge with a weapon and demanded money, after the bar had already closed for the night. While the clerk was not injured, the suspect did make off with cash and three bottles of liquor.

One male has since been charged with Robbery and another with robbery and assaulting a police officer.

Moore said RCMP wanted to thank the public who reached out to police with timely and helpful tips about suspicious activities on the night of the robbery, which helped officers to move forward in their investigation.

RCMP also reviewed video made available from both inside and from the surrounding area of the pub. Moore said surveillance footage is another useful tool that can help police put together the pieces of an ongoing case.

“It helps in that we can make connections, ” said Moore. “Even if we can't clearly see a face, we can identify with clothing … footwear, bags they're carrying… It just helps us to connect when it is a fresh arrest. ”
