Cochrane RCMP spokesman Sgt. Jeff Campbell said a 22-year-old woman from Calgary was killed Aug. 19 at 1:49 a.m. when she intentionally drove her car into the path of a semi-tanker-truck on Highway 8 at approximately Range Road 31.

“This has now been determined to be an intentional act, ” Campbell said.

Campbell was not willing to go into details, simply saying, “we determined this through our investigation. ”

“Shortly after midnight, Aug. 19, paramedics responded to Highway 8 at approximately Range Road 31, ” EMS Spokesman Adam Loria said.

“There was a collision between a semi truck and a car. Unfortunately, there was one fatality, being the lone occupant of the car. She was determined deceased on scene by paramedics. ”

The driver of the semi-truck, a 27-year-old man from Calgary, sustained only minor injuries but was transported to Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary as a precaution, according to Loria.

The driver was the lone occupant of the semi truck.

Highway 8 was closed from 2 a.m. to approximately 9 a.m. in both directions to allow the collision analyst to conduct the investigation. According to Campbell, there were no other vehicles involved in the collision or on scene as witnesses.

Campbell said the name of the victim is not being released pending notification of next-of-kin.

An 86-year-old woman is dead after a collision on the Trans-Canada Highway near Scott Lake Hill Aug. 24.

RCMP say a semi-truck travelling westbound, west of Scott Lake Hill, crossed the centre meridian and hit an eastbound mini-van, which was carrying four occupants, two adults and two children.

Each of the four passengers of the mini-van sustained injuries, with the 86-year-old woman dying as a result. The 48-year-old driver and an 11-year-old passenger sustained minor injuries, and a 14 year old was seriously injured and transported to hospital.

The two occupants of the semi-truck, a 44-year-old Grande Prairie man and 37-year-old co-driver from Delta, B.C., sustained minor injuries and were also taken to hospital.

STARS Air Ambulance attended the scene, along with police and other emergency services personnel.

The collision occurred at approximately 1:40 p.m., and closed the Trans-Canada Highway until around 10:30 p.m., nearly nine hours later, diverting much of the traffic onto Highway 1A and into Cochrane.

Cochrane RCMP continue to investigate the incident.

A three-vehicle collision on Highway 22 near Camden Lane sent four people to hospital, one of whom was a 12-year-old female who was airlifted by STARS to the Alberta Children's Hospital in serious condition.

The collision, which took place at approximately 5:40 p.m., was the result of a northbound truck hitting a car that was attempting to cross Highway 22 from Camden Lane.

A motorcycle that was parked on the side of the highway was also hit after the initial collision.

Police continue to investigate.

A two-vehicle collision that resulted in a rollover on Highway 1A at Lochend Road just before 3:30 p.m. Aug. 20 sent seven people to hospital.

One adult female was taken to Foothills Medical Centre in serious, but stable condition, while six children between the ages of 11 months and 11 years were transported to the Alberta Children's Hospital in stable condition with minor injuries.
