Live out your end-of-the-world fantasy and participate in Zombie Survivor on July 23.

Zombie Survivor is a five-km obstacle course that will take place at the Cochrane Agricultural Society. The race will feature uphill and downhill terrain as well as 12 obstacles and will run 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Participants can register to run either as a zombie or a runner – runners are given three “lives” flags to wear or zombies must try to steal them. Runners must complete the race with at least one “live” flag remaining or they are considered “infected” by the zombies.

All hope is not lost for runners because if they lose all their “lives” flags they may come across the extra life zone on course to bring them back to life. Once runners finish the race, they must check in at the volunteer table to record their finish time and receive their medal.

All participants are recommended to bring a change of clothes because they will likely get muddy, wet, and “bloody” during the race. All participants will receive a free T-shirt and food vouchers with their registration.

The event will also feature beer gardens, face painting, food trucks, and more. The nominated charity for the event is CanPraxis/Wounded Warriors who provide therapy for veterans who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder.

The July 24 Heroes Survivor – where participants are encouraged to dress up as their favourite superhero and try to escape the zombies’ clutches – has been cancelled because the event did not come together as organizers had hoped. It might be included in 2017.

There will also be on-site camping available for out-of-town attendees as well as a shuttle running from Calgary. For more information about registration, survival tips, and on-site camping visit zombiesurvivor.ca.
