Province lifts fire ban in southern Alberta

With the wetter and cooler weather in the past week, the Government adjusted the boundaries of the fire ban and off-highway vehicle (OHV) restrictions.

As of last Friday, the fire ban and OVH restrictions were lifted in portions of southern and southwestern Alberta, including Cochrane and surrounding area.

“The fire hazard across the northern area of the province remains high to extreme, so the restrictions will remain in place. We ask all Albertans to please continue to exercise extreme caution with fires,” Oneil Carlier, Alberta minister of agriculture and forestry.

Incendiary targets are still banned across the province and cities, towns, villages or federal lands, including national parks. Some municipalities originally under the fire ban might still have fire bans or restrictions in place.

Cochrane lifted its fire ban on Wednesday.

In parts of Alberta where the fire ban is still in effect, portable propane fire pits and gas or propane stoves and barbecues designed for cooking or heating are still allowed.
