Students from Cochrane High School and Bow Valley High School will face-off for a good cause again this year at the Cochrane Classic Charity Game.

In its 12th year, the game will take place Feb. 11 at 4 p.m. at the Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre (SLSFSC) with all of the proceeds from ticket sales and the raffle going towards the Cochrane Activettes.

Even though some people may see the game as a ‘cross town rivalry’, Bow Valley teacher and leadership advisor Dorothy Karlson said the game is not about that at all.

“The Cochrane Activettes have won for the past 11 years,” she said. “We want the community to understand that we can come together for a great cause and it is not about Bow Valley and it is not about Cochrane High. It is about youth helping people where they can in a fun way.”

Last year, Karlson said they raised around $1,100 for the Activettes, with between 300 to 400 kids attending the game.

“They help our community in such a variety of ways and they help families from Bow Valley and Cochrane High. They have been so great to work with,” she said of the Activettes.

The game features Grade 12, and sometimes Grade 11, students playing against one another. Karlson said skill has nothing to do with it, with players of all different levels of play taking to the ice.

She said students have been canvassing around Cochrane to find a variety of raffle prizes for the event and the community has always been very supportive, including SLSFSC, which donates its rink for the event.

“Members of the community, they are always very warm and open and we so appreciate the support that we get from the community. It is always a highlight for both schools,” Karlson said.

Tickets for the game are $2 and can be purchased at the door. For more information call 403-932-9004.
