The Cochrane RCMP had a quiet night on Dec. 31.

“New Year’s Eve was actually pretty smooth – the extreme weather probably helped out a lot.”

While the cold weather prevented the police from setting any long-term Check Stops in the evening, they were able to hold momentary ones.

Of the drivers stopped, only six were given an alcohol screen device test and all of them received a pass.

“We did see a lot of designated drivers and people being safe,” said Cst. Troy Savinkoff.

One Check Stop was set up at Glenbow Drive and Glenbow Crescent.

“It was roving the rest of the night because of how cold it was,” said Savinkoff.

Road conditions were overall decent considering the recent weather and Savinkoff said the RCMP didn’t have any calls for an extreme number of collisions.
