RCMP investigate break and enter spree

Cochrane RCMP are investigating a break and enter spree A Storage Company Inc. last week. Thieves broke into 18 RV trailers at A Storage Company Inc., located off of the Trans-Canada Highway beside Calaway Park.

Thieves broke into 18 RV trailers at A Storage Company Inc., located off of the Trans-Canada Highway beside Calaway Park.

RCMP investigated the thefts last Friday but said they believe the break and enters happened over the course of a couple days. Two suspects are currently in custody, on unrelated matters.

The RCMP Forensic Investigation Section was able to pull fingerprints and footprints from the scene. The incident is still under investigation and at press time, no charges had been laid.

Youth hit at crosswalk

An 11-year-old boy was hit in front of Mitford School on Wednesday.

The boy was crossing with his bicycle at the crosswalk at Quigley Drive and McDougal Road when he was struck by a vehicle around 7:40 a.m.

Cochrane RCMP and EMS responded to the incident. The youth sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

The incident is still under investigation by RCMP and it is unknown if charges will be laid.

Increased police presence for May long weekend

RCMP will be working in partnership with the Alberta Fish & Wildlife to bring increased enforcement presence over the long weekend.

Extra members will be patrolling the highways in squad cars, checking license and registrations while ensuring trailers and RVs are in compliance with the road laws.

Extra enforcement with also be patrolling the Waiparous and McLean Creek area with all terrain vehicles.

“We will be making sure individuals are not driving under the influence… we will be checking firearm safety and making sure people are not tearing up the backcountry. We need to treat the backyard with respect,” said Sgt. Jeff Campbell.
