Runners participated in the 36th Annual Terry Fox Run at Boulevard Lake in support of cancer research.

Dust off those running shoes and get ready to run for a good cause on Sunday, Sept. 15. The Terry Fox run will be taking place at Mitford Park, rain, snow or shine, and welcomes all souls to participate.

The run is marked out at 10 km but don't let that scare you away, as you can go however far you see fit. If you need to walk, bike or rollerblade this is acceptable and you can even bring your furry friend along for some fresh air. If that's not incentive enough, Original Joe's has partnered with the event and will be providing lunch at the finish line.

"It's nice because once everybody's finished they tend to hang out for a little bit, we have music playing and people just hang out in the park, so it creates a nice feel to finish off the day," said Lindsay Regier, event organizer for the Cochrane Terry Fox Run.

If you would like to run with a team, feel free to do so but if you prefer running solo that is totally fine too.

"We certainly encourage people if they want to have a team. It's a great way to get a bunch of people together like co-workers or family or especially if you know someone that's dealing with cancer, it's a great way to support them. Also, we do take individuals as well so we try and keep it as easy as possible to participate to get as many people out there supporting a good cause," said Regier.

Registration is online at www.terryfox.org and search for the run location. If you are unsure about your plans, you can always participate by donation on run day.

This year, the run is hoping to raise $15,000, a number that event has been so close to reaching in its past years. All funds accumulated from the run go directly to the Terry Fox Foundation for cancer research.

Volunteers are still needed to assist with registration and selling merchandise. If you are interested in helping out, please email [email protected]. It will only be a few hours of your time on run day.

If you have any other questions, Lindsay Regier will have a booth at the Cochrane Farmers Market on Sept. 7.
