River Heights Plaza to open by fall

River Heights area residents will soon have a commercial shopping district to call their own.

River Heights area residents will soon have a commercial shopping district to call their own.

Located just south of Cochrane Dodge along River Heights Drive , construction on River Heights Place will begin this spring with plans to have the plaza open sometime this fall.

"We are really pleased to bring a host of services to the community," said site developer Harish Consul, who was joined by architect Hank Brzezinski of BRZ Partnership Architecture; both are based out of Calgary.

Consul said the 32,000 sq/ft of commercial spaces in the two-storey build out are already 75 per cent filled and he has no concerns that the remainder of spaces will be at capacity long before opening.

River Heights Place will be home to the likes of Petro Canada gas station and convenience store, Domino's Pizza, Liquor District, Subway and Genius Kids.

There are also committed fitness, dental and medical centres.

Provincial minimum setbacks from soon-to-be-opening cannabis retail stores dictate minimum setbacks of 100-metres from areas frequented by minors. The town is hosting a public hearing seeking resident and stakeholder feedback May 14 on the matter, but early indications show increasing these setbacks to 150-meters.

Given the commitment of a daycare centre in the plaza, this site is not flagged as a potential home for a cannabis retail store.
