Phase two of the Riverfront Park project is currently underway and slated for completion by the end of summer 2015.

This phase includes the installation of a permanent metal structure at the Griffin underpass, allowing for two-way traffic; the replacement of five other bridges along the trail system (that runs along the Bow River) with more secure structures that would not likely be destroyed in the event of another flood or heavy rainfall; as well as increased amenities along the pathway system — including public washroom facilities, more benches and fire pits and a beach area (complete with sand) south of the Griffin underpass area.

Phase one was completed last year, mostly focusing on flood reparations, such as paving, landscaping and burming along the pathways toward the off-leash dog park around the Riverview community.

The entire project more or less incorporates most of the riverfront public access area running through the town.

The total project cost sits at $3M.

According to Suzanne Gaida, senior manager with community services for the Town of Cochrane, the project scope changed following the 2013 flood. The funds for the capital project come from provincial grants, disaster recovery monies and insurance monies.
