Rocky View County council has voted to accept $32.8 million in funding from the Government of Alberta to complete flood defences that protect Rocky Viewers living in Bragg Creek.

“It is wonderful - it really is a partnership between the Province and the County to provide that protection,” said Liz Breakey RVC Councillor of Southwest RVC and Bragg Creek.

“This is the only way the community can move forward at present time - without flood protection they are finished.”

The county will now engage engineering support that will further develop a Bragg Creek flood-mitigation strategy, hiring “top-notch personnel” according to Breakey.

Throughout the process, the county will be updating Bragg Creek residents on the different stages of the project and will present detailed project information at a public information session. Specific dates and time frames for next steps have not been set, since the county and the province must formalize the agreement.

The overall project will be undertaken in phases, and is expected to take several years to complete.
