Rocky View Schools is looking for public input from Cochrane residents who may be impacted by the opening of the new K-8 school in Sunset Ridge for the 2016/17 school year to inform attendance area parameters for the new school.

The board is encouraging parents to complete an online survey by March 26, available through rockyview.ab.ca or by following this link: surveymonkey.com/s/8YSJVRK.

Two public meetings were held over the last week, which saw a combined turnout of over 70 people; a first meeting was held at Mitford School Feb. 25 and a second at Elizabeth Barrett Elementary School March 3.

According to John Wheatley, director of facility planning for RVS, the board will be collecting data over the next several weeks and outlining some of the most significant concerns to establish attendance areas.

“We want as many people to go online and complete the survey as possible,” said Wheatley.

With over 4,000 RVS students in Cochrane, the new school is expected to alleviate some of the mounting pressure on schools such as Glenbow and Mitford; the new K-8 school will be built to house 800 students, with room for an additional 100 overflow.
