Sears Great Canadian Run coming through Cochrane

The 100-km Sears Great Canadian Run will be rolling through Cochrane Aug. 23. The run is a long distance running relay in support of the Sears Canada Charitable Foundation.

The run is a long distance running relay in support of the Sears Canada Charitable Foundation. Funds will be directed to 16 pediatric oncology centers across Canada that supports the research and treatment of kid’s cancer.

There will also be a run in Toronto Sept. 20 and Ottawa Oct. 4.

Teams can be made of up to 20 people and the legs will be between 3 - 12 kilometers long with 17 exchange points for the 100 km distance.

Each team must raise a minimum of $500 per person.

The run will begin at 8 a.m. at RockPointe Church in Bearspaw. Check-in begins at 6:30 a.m. and the opening ceremonies will be at 7:45 am.

From the starting point at the RockPointe Church, the route will continue on through Cochrane, into Water Valley and will finish at Camp Kindle, which is a 45-minute drive north of Cochrane.

Camp Kindle is run by the Kids Cancer Care Foundation of Alberta and according to its website, provides “safe, quality camp experience for young people and their families affected by cancer.”

There will be a post-run party at Camp Kindle, where teams can enjoy dinner and refreshments. There will also be prizes for the top fundraising teams handed out at the party.
