Second arrest made in Stoney First Nation death

UPDATE: A second charge has been laid in connection with the homicide of Kori Wesley. A 17-year-old youth of the Stoney Nakoda First Nation, who cannot be identified because of his age, was arrested on Aug. 11.

Police report that the youth was apprehended in Red Deer by Red Deer RCMP with the assistance of Police Dog Services.This investigation remains ongoing. The “K Division ” Interview Assistance Team and Forensic Identification Services are assisting Southern Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit.

Second degree murder charges were also laid against 20-year-old Tylen Tray Poucette from Stoney Nakoda First Nation, in connection with the death of 21-year-old Wesley, who was also from Stoney Nakoda First Nation.

Wesley's body was discovered near the Chiniki Rodeo grounds on Sunday.

Cochrane RCMP responded to a complaint of body found on Aug. 7 at 3:18 p.m., where Wesley's body was found and the death was deemed suspicious.

Cochrane RCMP worked with Southern Alberta RCMP Major Crimes, Calgary and Lethbridge Forensic Identification Sections, RCMP Police Dog, the K Division Interview Assistance Team and the Calgary Medical Examiner's office throughout the investigation.

The RCMP has also obtained an arrest warrant for another young person in relation to the incident. While the name of the second suspect cannot be released, RCMP members want the public to know the young person is not believed to be a danger to others.

Poucette is currently in custody, with his next court appearance set for Aug. 16 in Cochrane Provincial Court.
