Cochrane Lions Rodeo Royalty has a second applicant, just in time before the new queen and princess will be crowned Sept. 7.

Nicole Bauer, 18, was born in Calgary but moved to Cochrane when she was six years old and said she loves the atmosphere of the town and living the western lifestyle.

Now, she wants to represent Cochrane as part of the Rodeo Royalty program.

“Being involved with Cochrane Rodeo Royalty has been a childhood dream of mine,” Bauer said. “The Cochrane Rodeo has been an annual event for our family for as long as I can remember and is always a highlight of our summer.”

This past June, Bauer completed her fourth year of the 4-H program with her horse Phoebe as part of the Big Hill West Light Horse 4-H Club. She has been involved in several 4-H clinics and shows where her and her horse have found success.

Bauer said being selected as a member of Cochrane’s Rodeo Royalty program would lead to her continued personal growth.

“I would be honoured to be selected as a member of the Royalty so that I can realize my dream of horses, rodeo and royalty in one awesome package,” Bauer said.

Bauer added that she would love to be a role model for children and youth in the Cochrane area who have a passion for horses and the western lifestyle. She said that being an ambassador for Cochrane as part of the Royalty program would be a rewarding experience.

Susan Black, who organizes the Rodeo Royalty program in Cochrane, said there was a possibility that more candidates could come forward prior to Labour Day weekend.

Bauer was also a contestant in last year’s Rodeo Royalty competition.
