A Cochrane coffee shop will be hosting a charity event this weekend with skunks and coffee.

Deja Brew is inviting guests to come out to support the Alberta Institute for Wildlife Conservation (AIWC) with a reading and book signing with the authors of Scared Skunk.

The development and communications co-ordinator with the institute, Michelle Suttie co-authored the book with her teenage son, Denver, earlier this year when Suttie was inspired by an influx of injured and orphaned skunks.

This year, the institute had more intakes with the shelter receiving 1,235 animals compared to 978 last year at the same time in late July.

The wildlife conservation is located 30 minutes northeast of Cochrane, near Madden.

Residents and guests are invited to enjoy an afternoon of “giving and community fun for the whole family” with 100 per cent of the proceeds from book sales going to the rescue and rehabilitation of wild friends.

The reading and signing will be on Nov. 19 at 1:30 p.m. at Deja Brew, located at 205 First St. E.
