Smell of popcorn and desire to do good draws hundreds

“Everyone who took the time to come out was very positive as well as generous,” said theatre manager Hal Wolf.

Rumour has it, the best popcorn in these parts goes to the Cochrane Movie House.

With noses high in the sky the buttery goodness was plentiful Saturday afternoon. The theatre attracted 345 cars and gave away 450 large bags of the yellow stuff. Two full pick-up trucks of food and cash donations were donated to the Cochrane Activettes food bank.

“Everyone who took the time to come out was very positive as well as generous,” said theatre manager Hal Wolf.

The unique initiative took off without a hitch. Drivers lined up and offered their food donation to a waiting volunteer. After the drop off, the driver moved up and received bags of popcorn from a theatre employee. No one exited their vehicle and the whole process went smoothly.

The event was the theatre’s way of helping the community in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“When you run a business in a small community you need to be part of the community,” Wolf said.

“This community has supported my family and the Cochrane Movie House for over 20 years.” He added that the perishable popcorn needed to be used and he felt this initiative would be appreciated by the Activettes in this current crisis. The theatre will be closed until further notice.
